BC3 Thoroughbreds has strengthened its assault on the 2012 Spring Racing Carnival with another high profile international acquisition.

BC3 Thoroughbreds has completed the purchase of classy Argentine stayer Val Champ who joins the USA's premier turf stayer Sanagas as its second Melbourne-bound import.

A three-year-old son of 2001 Breeders Cup Mile winner Val Royal, Val Champ has passed the ballot for the Emirates Melbourne Cup for the next two years and will be aimed at either the BMW Caulfield Cup or Sportingbet Cox Plate en route to this year's race.

BC3 Thoroughbreds CEO, Bill Vlahos, said he was delighted to have secured a well-bred three-year-old Southern Hemisphere colt who can target Melbourne's premier Cups for several seasons.

“I am thrilled to be able to bring this horse, along with Sanagas, to Australia, because they are both serious Cups horses with the form on the board,” Vlahos said.

“Our philosophy is to provide the market with a racing product fully-equipped to make an immediate impression on the domestic racing scene and we've got that in Val Champ.

“He has excelled since stretching out to 2000 metres four starts ago with a 10-length victory and a Group 2 triumph before two hard luck tales in Group 1 company.

“He unfortunately lost the Group 1 Nacional Stake on protest before finishing a close-up fourth against older horses in arguably South America's most prestigious race, the Group 1 Carlos Pellegrini.

“We think his potential is untapped and his future owners not only have many good years of racing to look forward to, but their investment is going into an exciting stallion prospect with significant residual value.”

Vlahos explained that a percentage of Val Champ had already been sold to Australian connections, as well as prominent American owner David Bernsen, but that an opportunity existed for people to secure a stake in the Cups contender.

“There were a number of people who missed out on taking a share in Sanagas, so we're offering new and existing clients the opportunity to race a horse that is being set for our biggest races this year and beyond,” Vlahos said.

Vlahos added that Val Champ has been invited to run in the prestigious Gr1 Latinoamericana de Jockey Clubes e Hipodromos in his homeland next month before entering quarantine in either Europe or the United States.

He is due to arrive in Australia in May and will join the stables of a yet-to-be-named Australian trainer in preparation for the Spring Racing Carnival.
